I began my private teaching career as an undergraduate student and have nurtured a vibrant flute studio for more than 30 years. My teaching philosophy is grounded in meeting each student exactly where they are and helping them grow from a place of curiosity, creativity, and joy.

With a background in therapeutic music, mindfulness training, and body-based awareness practices, I prioritize health and well-being as essential parts of musical development. As I guide students in developing the skills they need to become confident musicians, I also help them cultivate the awareness needed to play with ease, freedom, and expression.

As a private instructor, I place less emphasis on competition and external achievement and more on developing expressive musicianship, technical ease, healthy practice habits, and a genuine love of music. My goal is to help students discover their unique musical voice and confidently share it with others, whether we are working on scales, etudes, ensemble music, or solo repertoire.

I believe lessons are a space for learning, exploration, and growth, where students are encouraged to take risks, ask questions, and enjoy the process as much as the outcome. One of my favorite mentors once shared with me: "It's good to have an end to journey toward, but it's the journey that matters in the end." Those words continue to guide my teaching and remind me that some of our most meaningful personal and musical growth happens between performances, through self-discovery, small victories in daily practice, and choosing to make music a part of everyday life.
